Mitt Romney is bringing his campaign to Zanesville on Tuesday.

About 1,000 people are expected to rally for the Republican presidential candidate at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl.  Captain Tony Coury said the Zanesville Police Department is coordinating with the U.S. Secret Service to prepare for Romney’s arrival.

"We block certain streets off, we have a lot of uniformed police officers and we have a lot of marked units," said Coury.  "We just ensure that they arrive safely, they exit safely and while they’re here we make sure that no one gets out of hand or tries to drive through a zoned off area."

Parts of McIntire Avenue will be closed during the afternoon.  The downtown area will see about a dozen extra officers on patrol.  Coury said that protestors are likely to attend the rally.

"As long as they don’t get out of control or try to do anything way out of hand, they’re allowed to stay, but they’re not allowed to stand in the street and block the road," said Coury.

The event kicks off at 2:30 p.m. with Governor Romney scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m.
