Area law enforcement agencies had their hands full Thursday after heavy rains played a role in a rash of accidents in the Zanesville area. The Highway Patrol says one of the biggest involved 5 vehicles near the Underwood Street exit of I-70 and was actually three different accidents. There was also an accident involving three commercial vehicles just 2 miles west of Zanesville on I-70 in the westbound lanes. The Highway Patrol says one of the trucks spilled metal across the roadway which is causing a major traffic back-up. The Patrol says at 5:45 pm one lane of traffic was open, but traffic is still backed-up. In all the Patrol says it handled six accidents during the first part of the day. No serious injuries have been reported.
