Democrats Take Trolley Tour in Perry County

Democratic candidates spent the day parading through communities in Perry County.

A trolley tour took them through Somerset, Thornville, Glenford, Mount Perry and surrounding towns.

Three Democratic groups sponsored the ride, and representatives say their objective was to take the campaign to the streets.

"What we wanted to do was to take the campaign to the people and not to the people that are always in the choir," said Robin Bartlett
of the Perry County Democratic Forum.

"We’ve tried to have one about every year, and we want this to get bigger. We want to get to all the people, both parties," said Joyce Wollenberg of the Democratic Women of Perry County.

Eight candidates running on the Democratic ticket this November followed the trolley, honking their horns and waving to people.

Perry County Central Committee Chairman Mike Boley said they want everyone to come out and vote.

"We’re just out trying to promote our Democratic candidates and our Democratic ideals, but the most important thing is to get out and make certain that you vote."

Trolley stops were scheduled around the county to give the public an easy way to register to vote or change their address.
