The Dresden Police Department is doing everything it can to raise money for two new cruisers.
A 5K race was held near the River Park Boat Ramp on Saturday. Assistant Chief Scott Caldwell says it’s important to have good running vehicles in a small town.
"We can’t do our job without them and the ones we have, they’ve got plenty of miles on them and they’re breaking down all the time and we’re having to get them fixed, it’s time, overdue," said Caldwell.
The turnout for the race was low, but Caldwell says the community will come together to help the police department.
"Everybody helps us out. Not just us, the fire department and everybody else, it’s a good community. Everybody takes care of everybody and they’re trying to help us take care of everybody so that’s good to have support like that," said Caldwell.
Dresden will continue to hold fundraising events in an effort to purchase at least one new cruiser.
