Zanesville Police are investigating an overnight drive by shooting on the city’s west side.

It happened just after midnight at 1573 Hickory Street near the intersection of Hickory and Gray streets.

Police say that a man stuck a gun out of a window and fired several rounds and took off north toward Ridge Avenue.

"Right now, we don’t have any suspects," said Captain Tony Coury.  "It looks like it could be a random shooting. No houses were struck that we could find. 5-6 shots were fired, officers at the scene last night did collect some shell casings and submit them to evidence."

At this time, police are working to determine a motive and a description of the vehicle.

Officers returned to the scene to question neighbors and to gather more information.

"These rounds could very well strike these houses," added Coury.  "They’re all in close proximity to themselves. anybody inside; small children, or dogs could be hit., so, It’s disturbing, but it’s nothing new. we’ve been receiving calls like this, for a long time,"

Those with information are urged to call the city’s tip line at (740) 455-0712.
