The spirit of pink is in the air at the Ohio University-Zanesville/Zane State College Campus Center.

Genesis HealthCare System held a breast cancer awareness event that brings hope, laughter and positive thinking to survivors and their supporters.  Director of Cancer Services Sharon Parker said the goal is to promote screenings.

"For the last few years, we’ve had a dinner and an educational speaker on breast health," said Parker.  "Tonight is Dr. Eladoumikdachi talking about some of the genetic specifics of breasts.  We also have a humorist coming in.  Leslie Townsend is our speaker tonight and we’re excited to have her here.  She’s very entertaining and enlightening."

Area vendors set up booths with pink themed clothing, jewelry and pottery on display.  Different departments at Genesis decorated 30 bras that could be found around the room.

"When we looked at the titles, we were wondering what they were going to look like," said Parker.  "We couldn’t wait to see them when they got here.  We’re excited and we hope that our participants enjoy the humor with it and hopefully see that educational side too."

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
