The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority is looking to expand two rail projects at the Eastpointe Business Park.

At Wednesday’s meeting, discussions were held regarding the engineering needed for the rail extensions that would allow for easier loading for companies like Halliburton.

Executive Director Mike Jacoby said he hopes to have bids opened on both of those projects by the end of the year.

"The first project will be really our own project to put a third spur in a transfer station if a company wanted to unload product to and from rail and truck, we could charge them a fee to do that," said Jacoby.  "The second project is the first segment of an extension of the rail spur to the job ready site."

Also discussed was the possibility of developing a new job ready site at Eastpointe and a promotional video aimed at drawing new businesses to Zanesville.

Jacoby said the rail project would be a strong selling point for future business prospects.

We’ve still got some decisions to make about exactly how we want to do that and what we’re willing to spend and what the market really is," Jacoby said., "but we had some good conversations today."

In executive session, Jacoby said there were talks of the possibility of an additional site development in the county.

Jacoby said no plans have been made and discussion of another site could go on for several months.
