One area woman is celebrating a milestone birthday.
Friends and family gathered at the Knights of Columbus Lodge in Zanesville on Sunday to surprise Ruth Schramm, just days before her 100th birthday.
Schramm said being happy and staying busy have been the key to living a long life.
"I have an extraordinary family" said Schramm, "and they take very good care of me, and I think that makes you happy, too."
Schramm currently lives with her daughter and son in law but has lived in Zanesville all her life.
She was married to her husband Albert for 61 years, and has 6 children and 17 great grand children.
Schramm spent the afternoon visiting with friends and family while sitting with members of her card club.
Family members say their matriarch is also quick to crack a joke.
"I had a good childhood," Schramm said, "Oh yes, I was the only child," she added with a smile on her face.
Schramm was also presented with a proclamation from Mayor Jeff Tilton in honor of her landmark birthday by her grandson-in-law, Dana Matz.
