A fundraiser took place Saturday to help a 17-month-old suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Baby Jack’s Rock, Rock and Blues was held at Jack Havanas Saturday. All proceeds will benefit Jaxson Curry, who was diagnosed with a cribriform tumor in July. After doctors removed the baseball-sized tumor, Jaxson began chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital.
"Because of massive amounts of medical bills and expenses, I decided to put together the event for the family." explained Penny Greene, organizer of the event. "He’s kind of special because he’s my little cousin, so he’s family."
Though Jaxson was able to make it to the event, he still has a long road ahead of him.
"Once he completes he chemo he has to have a stem cell transplant." said Greene. "A that point he’ll be hospitalized for eight months in isolation until the stem cell takes effect."
The fundraiser featured several bands, including Phil Dirt and the Dozers. A ten dollar donation served as the admission fee, and a live auction featured a cruise for two along with other items. Greene says, while she had no set goal in mind, she was glad to see the large turnout.
