Cooking Chicken to Support Athletes

The aroma of chicken filled the Muskingum County Fairgrounds earlier today.

The Zanesville Athletic Boosters held their annual Octoberfest cookoff to raise money for the organization. The Athletic Boosters support all the athletic organizations for Zanesville City Schools.

"We’re also having a cook, we’re cooking for First Christian Church on the corner of Dresden and Military. They do a fundaraiser cook for their church every October." said Brian Murphy, Zanesville Athletic Boosters President

Murphy says they’ve cooked for the church for the past four or five years. Half a barbecue chicken, baked potato, applesauce, roll and butter are included in the meals, which also serve an important purpose for the school system.

"With the economy the way it is, and the budgets for the schools, it’s very important." explained Murphy. "There’s only so much money to provide meals, and equipment for the schools for the athletic programs, and we kinds of supplement what they don’t have the money to take care of."

Murphy says if you weren’t able to make it to the event, you may have missed the best chicken in Zanesville.
