After 33 years of service Zanesville Fire Chief Craig Stemm is retiring.
The department said goodbye with a retirement party today. Former firefighters and city officials from other departments attended the party to wish Stemm good luck. Although it will be hard to leave behind the day-to-day operations, Stemm is excited to spend his retirement with his four month old grandson.
"With all the years I’ve been here, been doing shift for 28 years so we’ve missed a lot of the stuff our kids were in so yeah I’m looking forward to being able to do some of these things now," said Stemm.
Stemm feels confident he’s leaving the fire department in good hands. The new chief, Kevin Thomas will be promoted on Monday at City Hall.
