The Military Family Fest was another success this year.
The fest at the Zanesville Municipal Airport brought together military personnel and their families to pay tribute to their service. The Muskingum Valley Red Cross and Tri-County Gold Star Mothers presented the event to the public which included several special ceremonies.
"We had the missing man ceremony we had a former Marine from Columbus come in and do that and later on this afternoon about a quarter till three we’ve got a salute to the troops all the veterans and military from all the branches," said Red Cross Emergency Services Specialist James Applegate.
The goal of the fest is to provide assistance to military personnel after their return home. The Veteran’s Administration, Casualty Outreach, and the American National Guard were among some of the networking opportunities available.
"The way I look at this is if one person walks away with the answers they need from the military families it’s a success," said Applegate.
The fest began with a special ceremony by the Ohio Flags of Honor recognizing all those who were killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.
