The New Lexington Police Department is investigating an early morning homicide.

Police Chief Scott Ervin says it happened at 400 Lincoln Park drive in the New Lexington Village Apartments. He says a 39-year-old New Lexington woman is the victim in this case.

Officials on the scene did confirm that the incident happened in apartment C3.

Neighbor Richard Johnson says he was in bed when all of a sudden he heard sirens. He says while the incident is a little unsettling, he won’t be afraid to leave his home.

"I’m an outside person. I come out, and I don’t bother nobody, I keep to myself." he explained.

But the incident has left other neighbors emotional and uneasy.

"If it wasn’t for my neighbors here, they’re all I’ve got here. If they move I will definitely move." said neighbor Christine Dickens, who tearfully added, "It just scares me to death. I’m just petrified."

Chief Ervin says a person of interest is in custody. Detectives are still investigating the incident. No other details are being released at this time.
