Zane State College has a new energy addition.

President Paul Brown cut the ribbon on the school’s new solar panel rey installed by Dovetail Solar on the college’s front lawn. The five-kilowatt panels will generate power that the campus can use. This was made possible thanks to the Appalachian Energize Ohio Grant.

"It was a three million dollar grant from the Department of Labor that is basically for training incumbent markers in the field of energy," said Dean of Business and Engineering Technologies George Hicks.

Zane State held an Energy Expo following the ribbon cutting. The expo included natural gas vehicles, exhibits featuring solar thermal heating and wind power. The addition of the solar panels are working to turn the small school into an energy college.

"We pride ourselves on having several programs dealing with energy both renewable and natural gas and oil and in addition we also have a program in sustainable agriculture, we like to be known as an energy college," said Hicks.

The unveiling wrapped up a week-long Green Energy Ohio Tour.
