The city of Zanesville officially has a new Fire Chief. Kevin Thomas was sworn in as Chief of the Zanesville Fire Department Monday afternoon in city council chambers. While the title hasn’t sunk it quite yet, Thomas already has some plans in place.
"We’re going to look at everything," explained Thomas. "I mean there’s always room for change, there’s always room for improvement. An organization that’s not improving isn’t moving forward."
Thomas says his new duties will include more of the business and administrative side of things. For Thomas, becoming Chief is sinking in slowly.
"I’m numb I guess more than anything else." said Thomas. "It will take a while to get used to this. I’ve been on the department for over 20 years, and almost almost all that time I’ve worked on shift, at a 24 hour position. So just getting used to the hours, it’s going to take a while to really sink in for me. "
Thomas replaces Craig Stemm at the Chief position. Stemm retired last week after 33 years of service.
