A Newark Police Officer is recovering following an accident Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Steven Sarver said that Heath Police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle near Calburn Street when they requested assistance from Newark Police Officer Michael Trotter.
Trotter began to respond while southbound in the area of 1542 Horns Hill Road when he lost control of his cruiser on wet pavement and struck a utility pole.
He was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital and was then transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for further evaluation. He is listed in stable condition.
Officer Trotter is a 16 year veteran of the Newark Police Department.
