Operation Spirit in Zanesville is gearing up for a fundraiser this weekend that will support the troops. The "Bags and Boots Gala" event transforms ordinary bags and boots into extraordinary pieces that will be auctioned off to raise money for the Christmas care packages that Operation Spirit sends to the troops annually.

"We’ve used the purses, the bags, as the gift bags for the incentives, and the boots we took and made floral arrangements and wreaths and different things. Some are with the purses too but mostly unusual boots and shoes." explained Melodie Pittman, Director of Operation Spirit.

Many of the one-of-a-kind pieces were crafted by community members and donated to the organization.

"It’s going to be a great place for getting gifts, even for Chistmas." explained Pittman. "I hate push Christmas so early, but if you need a get well gift for some one, or a "thinking of you", or a birthday gift, this is the place to be. We designed this so if you only have three dollars to spend, there’s something here for you."

The Linden avenue business will open its doors Saturday at 4:30 p.m.. A salad and dessert buffet begins at 5 p.m.. Tickets for the buffet are five dollars and need to be purchased in advance. You can call Operation Spirit at 740-453-6777 to reserve your ticket.
