On Thursday the OSU Extension Office celebrated their role in Muskingum County.

The office held its annual tailgate party to highlight their progress in the community. This year also marks the 150th year of the Morrill Act that established the land-grant university to teach the practical skills of agriculture and mechanics.

"Ohio State University is our land grant university in Ohio has many, many more fields of study today but initially it was for the average person that could go on to study at a higher education institution," said Mark Mechling, OSU Extension Educator.

The land-grant has improved the lives of millions of Americans and the extension office continues to bridge the gap between Ohio State University and Muskingum County.

"We are the extension of the land-grant university here in the community so we’re trying to tie our relationship with OSU back to the local extension office and we can provide those resources from the University to the residents here in Muskingum County," said Mechling.

Thursday’s tailgate also recognized some of the partners and clientele the extension office has established over the years within the community.
