Under President Obama’s Health and Human Services mandate, the Federal Government requires employers including religious charities, to provide free contraceptives and abortion inducing drugs in their health plans.
It’s this mandate that has prompted concerned citizens to speak out about what they see is an attack on their 1st Amendment Right, to freedom of religion.
"We could just say we hope it works itself out or we can say we’re going down fighting,"said Co-organizer of the Southeastern Ohio Freedom of Religion Rally Rusty Montgomery. "We’re going to follow our Bishops, our Cardinals who said this is wrong, we’re not going to do it. If we have to break the law, we’ll break the law or some of our Catholic Schools and charities will actually go under."
People objecting to the HHS Mandate are invited to rally at the Muskingum County Courthouse on Sunday, where speakers from all denominations will talk about the issue.
"We’re just kind of middle America and we’re standing up for what we believe is true," said Co-organizer Nancy Montgomery. "We believe in our first amendment rights and we believe in the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, we believe in those things as Americans. We must never forget who we are."
The Southeastern Ohio Freedom of Religion Rally will begin at 3p.m. Sunday afternoon.
