A friendly competition between New Concord Firefighters and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office goes to a good cause.

For the last five years the Guns vs. Hoses Flag Football game has donated their earnings to the Muskingum Valley Red Cross. The game is a fun way for the two departments to raise money for a good cause.

"To look at something to do for the Red Cross and how we’re both involved in, the Sheriff and I we get to see the good side and the bad side of everything that happens in the community and the Red Cross is always there, they’re always a phone call away when we need them," said Troy Cole of the New Concord Fire Department.

This year the departments were able to present the Red Cross with nearly 4,500 dollars. The donation greatly helps the organization, as the money will be put into the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

"This has just been such a labor of love between so many people that work very hard every year to put this on and to be the recipient of that it’s fantastic," said Muskingum Valley Red Cross Executive Director, Marlene Henderson

Throughout the last five years, Guns vs. Hoses has raised close to 20,000 dollars for the Red Cross.
