The Muskingum Recreation Center is one step closer to completion. A groundbreaking ceremony took place today on the Ohio University Zanesville campus. The multi generation facility will aim to improve health, wellness and physical fitness for community members.

"This will be the 2nd best day, the best day will be the grand opening, which we hope will happen in a little more than a year from now."

The facility will house an eight lane lap pool for competition, a two-thousand square foot warm water pool, a ten thousand square foot fitness facility with cardio and strength equipment, group exercise rooms, yoga rooms and treatment rooms.

"We’re still fundraising because we hope to add on and improve the facility in the future, but the next steps will be the bulldozers will come out and we’ll start the construction, probably having steel go up in early next year. "

A 5K run/walk and family fun run took place following the ceremony to jump start the healthy lifestyle the Rec Center will promote once it’s complete. The Muskingum County Community Foundation, Genesis HealthCare System, and the Muskingum County Y partnered with Ohio University Zanesville to make the center possible.
