After three years of hard work, fundraising, and planning, the Muskingum Recreation Center will break ground Wednesday.
The ceremonial groundbreaking will take place at 3 p.m. on the Ohio University Zanesville Campus. The aquatic recreation facility will host swim meets and basketball tournaments, and encourage all ages of the community to make lifestyle changes.
"To actually see the groundbreaking come into fruition is really a dream." said Muskingum Recreation Center executive director Beth Chapman. "Our community has been very supportive of the project. What was once a dream is going to be a reality."
Following the groundbreaking there will be a 5K run/walk at 4:30 p.m., and a Family Fun Run at 5 p.m..
"We wanted the groundbreaking to be not traditional." Chapman explained. "Our community has really looked forward to this new facility, and we really want to bring health to our community, and this is one way to do it"
The event is free to the public, and those who want to take part in the 5K will be able to register after the groundbreaking. Fitness-related activities for children will also take place.
