The Muskingum County Board of Elections tallied up the numbers Tuesday and released the official count from the general election.
Almost 70% of registered voters in Muskingum County turned out to vote in the election, which was down around 3% from the 2008 election. However, there was an increase in the number of people who voted absentee.
"The turnout for absentee was right around 14,000 this year and in 2008 our turnout was right around 12,000 so we were up from 2008." said Board of Elections director Chris Hamill
Hamill says the official count went smoothly, and only took about an hour.
"It’s just basically you’re counting all the ballots from election night and then we also include all the provisional ballots, they are also included in the official." she said.
The official count did not change any election results in Muskingum County.
