Red Cross Needs Your Help

The Red Cross is busier the colder the temperature gets…and they need help to serve those in need.

The organization helps families displaced by house fires and wintery conditions lead to more fires. The Muskingum Valley Chapter has been to four fires in the last four days. The best defense a family can have is a smoke detector and a plan of escape. Getting your family out alive is the most important thing and the Red Cross can handle the rest.

"We’ll make sure that they get clothing, shoes if needed, coats depending on what time of the year it is and just make sure they have those needs to get them through the next couple of days before their insurance comes in," said Muskingum Valley Red Cross Executive Director, Marlene Henderson.

Helping families in need takes a toll on the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Across the country the organization serves about 63,000 families a year, which is equivalent to a fire every five minutes.

"We have to make sure the funds are there and always there to help the next family that needs help and if it wasn’t for our United Ways and the donations of people in our counties, we wouldn’t be able to do it."

If you would like to donate to the Muskingum Valley Red Cross you can at their 22 South 7th Street location.
