Shopping Season Underway

It’s almost a holiday in itself, black Friday shopping got underway at midnight in Zanesville and the rest of the country.

‘Tis the season for holiday shopping. Depending on how you look at it, it was either an early morning or late night for shoppers, as some stores opened at midnight.

"It’s crazy," said one shopper.

"I think it’s awesome. I don’t think it’s nuts at all," added Amy Dew.

The National Retail Federation estimates 147 million people will shop Friday and retailers hope to cash in on Christmas.

"We were using our cars where you get $10 off so we did that. I actually saved an additional 15 percent off, so I saved $169," said shopper Lisa Green.

"It’s kind of the first time you see that Christmas spirit," said Mall Marketing Manager Kevin Pinson. "People come out, they’re excited. They’re in a great mood even though they’ve been up since 2-3 in the morning."

While getting deals is great some say Black Friday shopping is a ritual.

"It’s making memories. It’s getting into the holiday season and spirit. Also, it’s just tradition. Everybody that I know goes out on Black Friday. It’s fun for everybody," said Green.

"We’ve done it for the last 5-6 years," added shopper Cindy Matheny.

Experts said when holiday shopping it’s best to have a plan of attack.

"Have a plan and a lot of guys to wait in line and place them in different lines," said one group of shoppers from Newcomerstown.

"It’s good to plan your assault. Look through the flyers, go online and check what the specials are," said Pinson. "Decide what stores to hit first and follow through with it."

And Pinson said to make sure to get a gift receipt in case items need to be returned. Those receipts also have the stores return policies.
