Boy Scouts Camp in Winter Wonderland

It was a winter wonderland for campers at McGraw Edison Recreation Area.

Boy Scout Troop 128 spent the weekend bundled up in tents.  Scoutmaster Kevin Pinson said they camp at a different park every month, regardless of the temperature outside.

"Everytime I tell someone I’m going camping this weekend, they tell me that I’m nuts, but there’s no mosquitos, we don’t need any ice for the coolers, and we have the place to ourselves," said Pinson.  "I think it’s the perfect time to go camping."

The boys practice fire safety and survival skills, but they also enjoy hiking and sledding.

"We’re having a lot of fun.  We’ve been camping since yesterday, and we’re going to stay until tomorrow.  We’ve had lots of snowball fights."

They wear layers of warm clothing and insulate their sleeping bags to stay warm.

"It’s really cold, but when you get in your tent and bunk with other people, it gets warmer."

Boy Scout Troop 128 is sponsored by Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
