Cards for Newtown

There’s a way for our community to send our thoughts to those suffering loss in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Bryan and Snider Funeral Home has a memorial set up to honor the 20 children and 6 adults who lost their lives last Friday.

The display features a candle, guest book and memorial cards. The funeral home directors ask that those in the community wishing to send support to those touched by the events to come in and sign the guest book or write a message in a card.

"Even though we’re miles and miles apart our thoughts and our prayers are with them," said Managing Partner Phil Zehms. "As funeral professionals the death of a child is so so difficult and when it’s something so tragic like this and so many all a the same time, you just can’t explain it."

All the items will be boxed up along with the memorial candle and be sent to Sandy Hook Elementary. The funeral home also has materials on hand on how to help those grieving.

"We’ve reached out to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care. Kelly Ross is the bereavement coordinator and we got some additional grief materials from her and have those materials available here as well. We also have some materials through our website as well as for folks to pick up if they’d like about talking with kids about grief and loss and death."

The guest book will be at Bryan and Snider Funeral Home until after the first of the year. The funeral home is open Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30p.m. You can also sign the guest book on the funeral home’s website. You can find it under the obituary section.
