One Last Chance for Hunters

This weekend hunters will get another chance to bag a deer that may have eluded them during the week long gun season.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has allowed this extra weekend of hunting since 2006, in response to a request for extended weekend hunting hours. Kathy McCann from the Dillon Falls Store said a big factor in whether or not the hunters will do well is the weather, but this season’s been rough.

"They just didn’t see the deer until they were either heading home from the woods. Then they’d see then maybe in a herd, nothing but doe, so yeah a little bit disappointed," explained McCann.

Hunters will also be sharing the woods for those seeking not only deer, but rabbit, fox and pheasant.

"Be safe. Wear their orange and make sure whatever they are shooting at is a deer," said McCann. "A lot of people are kind of desperate to get that deer because the two days Saturday and Sunday are it."

McCann also reminds hunters they can still donate to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. One deer can feed up to 200 hungry people.
