A local retirement community does its part to help animals this holiday season.
For the last month, Primrose Retirement Community has been collecting items for the Muskingum County Animal Shelter. Primrose Executive Director Shala Steinman and housekeeper Mindy Chappalear created "Peace on Earth and Good Will to Pets" to help residents remember the animals at the shelter this Christmas.
"The day that the notice went up they were ecstatic. It just started pouring in from the products to we even got checks," said Steinman.
Residents and staff donated bleach, blankets, treats and newspapers. Shelter Director Jody Murray says the items are a blessing and will get greatly help the animals..
"These are things we use everyday and it just helps us when we use donated items it helps save some money for us to do some other things that go directly toward the cats and dogs and pets that we have so everything here are great items for the shelter and we’re greatly appreciative," said Murray.
Primrose plans on hosting another donation later this year. It’s not too late to donate to the Animal Shelter either, their Giving Tree will remain up until January 1st.
