Teens in Need for the Holidays

Teens in need in Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties tend to be an age group overlooked by charities and organizations during the holiday season.

The United Way’s 2-1-1 Call Center has identified an unmet need of children 13 and over. The center has a list of children who need help for Christmas.

Audrey Foster, the 2-1-1 Call Center Manager explained,  "Those kids who are 13 years and older are on that list.  Also some folk who may have missed the sign up for Salvation Army or they may have just now realized; they were either laid off or their hours were cut and they are saying now, because they were thinking they would be able to provide Christmas, that were in need. "

The call center does cross reference their list with other agencies helping to make sure the help will not be duplicated. So far the center has helped 19 children from a list of 180. Meaning there are a lot more teens to help.

Any amount of money you can give will benefit them because these children are asking for basic items. "Some of these kids, their lists are rather humble. Things like socks, things that you wouldn’t think of as an exciting gift but they are thinking very practically", Foster said.

If you are interested in adopting a teen, contact Audrey Foster at the 2-1-1 Call Center. Foster is also asking any Key Clubs in the area for volunteers next week to shop and wrap presents.
