The Zanesville Community Theatre is gearing up for an upcoming play.

Auditions were held tonight and will be held again tomorrow, from PM-9PM, in order to cast 14 roles for the play "August: Osage County" with performances scheduled for the last week in April.

Eric Blake, the Director of August: Osage County said, "the play is modern day set, it takes place in Oklahoma and it is about a very dysfunctional family and that is putting it mildly. But the patriarch of the family commits suicide at the beginning of the play and this play looks at how each one of the family members deal with that suicide."

The critically acclaimed dark comedy is written by Tracy Letts and has received a Tony Award as well as a Pulitzer Prize. As for the local production, Blake has his own method for how he will cast his play.

"Every director has their own vision for a show and as a director, I do not look at physical characteristics, most of the time I look at the chemistry between the actors and the scenes we audition, " Blake said.

Blake says once he has his cast set, they will work for a minimum of three days a week. If you have any question, check out the ZCT’s web page at
