If you’re heading to the Philo Varsity Basketball game Friday you can get in free of charge.
That is if you bring a canned food item. It’s part of "Franklin Local Feeds Families." The district decided that they wanted to give back to the community and help area food banks replenish their items after the holiday season.
"I just feel that it’s a great cause and it’s a great way to give back to the community," said Soccer Player Nick Brannon. "I feel it’s a great way for people to get what they need."
"Kids normally don’t understand how much it means to those families," added Volleyball Player Taylor Cassady.
After Friday’s game the student will pack up the items to be distributed. The schools in the district have been collecting food since December, which will be added to Friday’s contributions.
"We think it’s really important to focus on community events," explained School Board Member Susan Lint. "Things that will bring our schools, parents and students together and help with good causes, teaching students that it’s always good to give back to our community."
Thanks to corporate sponsors they’re were additional contributions of food and monetary donations to offset the cost.
