Martin Luther King Jr. day is less than a week away and the MLK Scholarship Fund is very busy with various event in Zanesville over the coming days.
This Friday is the first of these events, the 21st Annual Ethnic Food Fair, held at Zane State College at 11 AM. For ten dollars, taste goers will experience a variety of cuisines.
MLK Scholarship Fund Chair, Kathy Brantley said, "The actual students at Zane State will prepare the food and we have a variety of items that they will be eating, and that’s Italian, food from Hungary, African cuisine and good old soul food. "
The next function will be a singspiration held on Sunday at the John McIntire Library Auditorium where area church choirs will sing gospel music. The guest speaker at the library is Eric Peterson, who will also be honored on Monday at the 19th annual Prayer Breakfast. Peterson, along with four other men will be honored for their contributions to the community, as 32 deserving students receive scholarships.
"These are students that have reached their goal, they understand what their dreams are and they want to go to college and invest in themselves and they have done well in high school thus far. We have 32 of them and along with honoring five wonderful outstanding gentlemen who have also contributed to our community."
WHIZ’s, Jennifer Bullock will be the host at the prayer breakfast who was also a recipient of the scholarship when she was in high school. The MLK scholarship fund is also asking for those attending the breakfast to have their schools, churches and work places to have a canned food drive and bring those non-perishable items. You can also take cans to Christ’s Table.
