The Ohio University-Zanesville and Zane State College campus is making a new turn in providing security for their students.

Since November Bethany Hayes has been the Director of Safety and Security. Prior to joining the Zanesville campus, Hayes served the for ten years, where she was responsible for conducting training sessions in addition to providing community policing on campus. Hayes says the transition into her role now was not a difficult one.

"We wanted to make sure that we have the policy procedures in place, emergency management planning, that we collaborate with local law enforcement and with our campus community to build a good partnership," said Hayes.

The security services at the Zanesville campus now include two full-time and two part-time officers. Hayes is also a certified response options critical incident and ALICE instructor. Something that she plans to incorporate into the campus very soon.

"It has been approved for implementation on both campuses. What is is that we will do is we will go to a classroom environment and teach students, faculty and staff what to do in critical incidents and or active shooter situations."

Goals for Hayes in 2013, include continuing to work with OU-Z and Zane State to further her department’s role at both campuses in a professional and service-oriented way.
