New Year New Plans for Library

The Muskingum County Library System is fine tuning its focus as we begin the new year.

This year they’ll look at four major areas, the customer, measuring what matters most, collaboration and transformation.

The assistant director at the John McIntire Library said ultimately the libraries should be a mirror of the community and what they need most.

"If the book doesn’t go off the shelf it’s not the book for Muskingum County," said assistant director Blair Tom. "When people sign up and reservations are full for a program we’re on to the right things. The library should reflect the community it serves. That’s the great strength of public libraries in Ohio."

The library does not anticipate receiving more money from the state for funding, but does not expect any major cuts, instead the library system will repurpose money.

"We anticipate in this year shifting a little of our material collection money from the traditional format and print to growing the on-line downloadable formats, so that’s one of those things, not additional monies, but shifting existing monies," said Tom.

Tom said they’ve seen a rise in popularity of their Kindles. They started the year with five and added an additional five before the end of the year.
