More research is being done on a job ready site in the Eastpointe Industrial Park.
The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority received $6,000 from American Electric Power. The grant money supports economic development and in this case will be use to collect soil samples on a section of property at Eastpointe. It’s important to get these samples because most of that area is former strip mine.
"We had a company that looked at that site and was serious about that site only to find out after that they did some soil borings that the price to develop it, based on how much dirt would have to be moved was not attractive to them," said Executive Director Mike Jacoby. "Unaddressed this site is going to be a challenge. We think by doing some homework and spending some money up front we can come up with a couple of different plans to make that site marketable so that’s the plan."
Jacoby said about 11 acres of the 20 acres can be made into flat ground. This Friday, the Port Board will also open bids on two rail projects at Eastpointe after months of researching the project.
"We’re finally going to get to the point we are getting bids in and hopefully we’ll get under contract and have some work begin in the spring," said Jacoby.
During this project a third rail spur will be built at the rail transfer station and an extension to Halliburton.
