A man has been taken into custody after a shooting incident in Zanesville Thursday night.

Police Chief Eric Lambes said a woman was shot in the chest at a home in the 1100 block of Lafayette Street.  He said the suspect fled to the 400 block of Eastman Street after the shooting.  The man locked himself in a shed behind a house.

Lambes said that hostage negotiators were called to the scene to convince the suspect to come out.  He said when the man eventually opened the shed, authorities shot the suspect with a beanbag because he was still holding the weapon.

The man was then placed in a patrol car.  Lambes said the woman was transported to a hospital, but her condition is unknown.  No other details are being released at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
