Wagner Community Leadership Award

Dan and Karen Vincent will receive the 2013 Brian T. Wagner Community Leadership Award at the 28th Anniversary celebration of the Muskingum County Community Foundation on Saturday, February 2nd, 2013.
The Brian T. Wagner Award was created by the Community Foundation to honor the achievements of individuals who have contributed to the betterment of Muskingum County through extraordinary commitments of time and effort as volunteers. These individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 55 years of age, live in and volunteer in Muskingum County and have a history of significant volunteer leadership of projects and programs.
Karen retired in 2012 after nearly 35 years at the Muskingum County Recorder’s office, 16 of which were as the elected County Recorder. Her community leadership and service did not cease with her retirement: she currently serves on the United Way Board, Salvation Army Board, Genesis Advisory Brand and as Carr Center Cake Auction, Co-Chair (2012&2013).
She has been active with the Muskingum County Republican Club as a past officer and volunteer for numerous local, state and federal campaigns as well as with the Muskingum County Township Association.
Her past services include volunteer service for Operation Feed, Lace Up for Kids Sake, the Muskingum County Community Foundation Council, the Beaux Arts Club and the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board.
Karen has also been active at the state level as an Executive Committee Member and Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President of the Ohio Recorders’ Association as well as a member of the Ohio Council of County Officials.
Both she and her husband Dan are members of Grace United Methodist Church which Dan has served as Trustee and on the Administrative Board.
Dan has a rich history of service to his community and his profession while taking on increasing responsibilities at Genesis Health Care System over the past 27 years in Nursing Administration as a Project Consultant and now as an Education Consultant.
Dan is a Ohio University Zanesville graduate with an Associate Degree in Nursing (1986) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing(2009). He serves on the Nursing Advisory Boards for Ohio University Zanesville, Central Ohio Technical College (Chair) and the Mid-East Career and Technology Center. At Ohio University Zanesville, he also serves as the Chairman of the Regional Coordinating Council.
Currently, he serves on the Genesis Advisory Board, the Zanesville Community Improvement Corporation Board, the United Way Advisory Board and as Vice President of the Genesis Credit Union Board.
His past service includes Chairman of the Muskingum County Community Foundation Council, membership on the Community Foundation Board and its Executive Committee, United Way Advisory Board, Community Build! Board, Hocking College, and Belmont Technical College Nursing Advisory Boards, and the McIntyre Terrace Association Board.
He has been elected twice as President of Zanesville City Council, which he has served for six terms. Dan has taken his passion for helping other people to a city-wide engagement in making a better community for the people of Zanesville.
His service has not gone unnoticed. His major awards have included the 2011 Alumni Leadership Award from Ohio University Zanesville, the Genesis Nursing Pride Award in both 2011 and 2005 and the Lifeline of Ohio Orion Award for dedication and innovation in promoting organ donation.
Dan has also volunteered for special community events including the Carr Center Cake Auction, Genesis Hospice Zaney Follies, Salvation Army, United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Zanesville’s Juneteenth, Red Cross and Gus Macker.
During the annual Community Foundation Groundhog Day Celebration, the Vincents will be recognized on a plaque permanently displayed in the atrium of the Community Foundation office and their favorite nonprofit organization will receive a $1,000 grant.
The Award will be presented at 6:30pm at the Zane State College/Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center by nominator Ryan Moyer.
