A different type of art will be featured at Studio 202 this First Friday in downtown Zanesville.

The Y-Bridge Rug Hookers has existed for almost a decade and the group has demonstrated their craft at several First Friday events. This week they plan to show off more of their traditional rug hooking artwork.

"They’re just things that we have created that we like, that we use in our homes they may be a pillow on the couch, they may be a rug on the floor or it may be a wall-hanging," said Linda Baughman of Y-Bridge Rug Hookers.

Items on display are created by pulling thin strips of wool or other material through stiff fabric like linen or burlap. Modern hooking incorporates many different styles, designs and purposes. Those coming out on Friday can expect a large variety of work.

"If you look at some of the rugs, some have very narrow cuts, some are embellished with wool or pieces of fabric or mirrors or whatever. That’s where the artistry comes in," said Baughman.

The hooking display will include demonstrations and those in attendance will have a chance to try rug hooking out for themselves. The show and reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at Studio 202 on North Third Street.
