The Lincoln Luncheon brought out many members of the community for its thirteenth year.
The luncheon was held at Zane State/Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center. The annual event acts as a fundraiser for the Putnam Underground Railroad Education Center.
"This is really the only fundraiser we have and it facilitates quite a few things keeping the building open and our memberships to other venues and it’s a wonderful thing for the community, we get everybody involved," said PURE Center President, Liesta Walker.
There was a silent auction and a special speaker, attorney Peter Cultice who delivered a speech on the emancipation proclamation. The luncheon’s purpose is to raise money for the PURE Center but it also focuses on educating the public.
"I have this piece of history in my home, my grandmother has a house and we’ve got the paperwork that says it was part of the underground railroad, would you be interested, oh absolutely. So you get those conversations going which gets greater investment in the community by the community," said Walker.
The PURE Center is located at 522 Woodlawn Avenue in Zanesville.
