The Champion Cheer Central Regional Competition was held at John Glenn High School today. There were over 80 cheerleading, dance and all-star teams who competed in hopes of making it to the state level. Cambridge, West Muskingum, New Lexington, and Bishop Rosecrans were among some of the local teams that competed today.
"It’s the fifth year we’ve hosted this competition, and it’s growing each year. We have over 100-something performances this year," John Glenn High School Cheerleading coach Lindsay Abbott said.
Teams were split into divisions and judged on synchronization, their sharpness, showmanship, and tumbling skills. Those that perform well will advance to the state competition and then the national competition held in Cleveland this March.
"Most of the teams have started working since about June, they’ve been putting their routine together and do small competitions throughout the year and this is just one of those on the way to a bigger competition for them," Abbott said.
The John Glenn cheerleading team did not compete, but performed for their guests since they have already qualified for the state competition.
