An increasingly popular competition returns to our area.

For the fifth year, John Glenn High School will be hosting their President’s Day Cheer and Dance Competition this Saturday. Over one hundred performers will compete, including 80 different local teams. The competition is broken up into two sessions. The morning session will include over 30 school teams from the area. The afternoon session will be for All-Star Teams, also all local teams. The competition will be non-stop action and fun for all who attend.

"We will have many different school teams performing and during the school teams, some of them will be doing tumbling, doing their jumps, dance routines with cheers. We’re incorporating a lot of crowd involvement," said John Glenn High School Head Cheerleading Coach, Lindsay Abbott.

Of course it is a competition so the teams will be judged on certain criteria during their performances.

"If they’re judging on tumbling they’re looking for synchronization, difficulty of the skills they’re looking at how the placement of the body positions in tumbling, then they’re looking at jumps the height of the jumps, the flexibility in the girls and one of the biggest things for cheerleading is showmanship," said Abbott.

The competition will begin at 9 a.m. and will last all day. Addmission is $5 for ages 13 and above and children five to 13 are $3. Doors open at 8 a.m.
