Newly acquired land will soon add to the view of downtown Zanesville.

The Muskingum County Community Foundation recently gained nearly 7 acres of land along the Licking River next to the property that was donated to the foundation by the Upton family in 2006. The acquisition of the land is a part of the foundation’s commitment to improve the quality of life in Muskingum County.

"We’ve had a long plan ever since James McDonald was our President of the Board of helping that area, cleaning up the West Main Street area and this is part of that plan," said Muskingum County Community Foundation Executive Director, David Mitzel.

The foundation has no immediate plans for the property but what they do envision is a way to connect Zanesville.

"In the long term we’re looking at the potential at having a bike path and a walking trail from this property along the LIcking River up to Joe’s Run, up Joe’s Run to the University," said Mitzel.

A lof of work needs to be done to clean up the property. Lepi construction is a part of the foundation’s real estate community and will begin work on the area soon.
