Today, The Putnam Underground Railroad Education Center invited the Hands of Faith Church choir to the historic Woodlawn Avenue house to sing in celebration of Black History Month. The choir performed traditional gospel and spiritual songs.
This was the second event that the PURE Center planned in honor of Black History Month. They hosted the 13th Annual Lincoln Luncheon at Zane State College on Friday.
"We endeavor to educate children and adults as to the part that Zanesville, South Zanesville played in the road to freedom for the slaves," Liesta Walker, President of The PURE Center said.
Walker says she hopes these events motivate people to learn more about Black History. "Truly, at the heart of it all, we simply want to help educate people," Walker said.
