The Zanesville Police Department responded to a possible breaking and entering Thursday afternoon.

Captain Tony Coury says officers were called at around 1 p.m. to the Wheeling and Ceramic Avenue area about a man breaking into a vacant home. Officers arrived and surrounded the residence as the man inside tried to escape.

"The person tried to get out from a couple different areas finally they were able to catch him near the front of the house and once other officers worked their way into the house they were able to place him under arrest," said Capt. Coury.

Captain Coury says the man is between 25 to 30 years old. Police also confiscated the man’s bike that he rode to the residence.

"Right now we’re going to take him downtown, lock him up and interview him looks like we’re probably charge him with criminal trespass, criminal damage," said Coury.

Neighbors say the house has been vacant for years and police have been to the address before to investigate other possible break-ins.
