The Ohio Attorney General’s Peace Officer Training Academy is here in Zanesville this week. The virtual training puts officers in real-life situations, where they are forced to make critical decisions.
"Use of force, judgemental decisions, how quickly the scenarios can develop, we expect one thing to happen and then something else happens, so again it’s just opening the eyes to how bad situations can become," training officer, Andrew Russell said.
The courses are designed to teach officers how to improve their reaction skills. The training sessions give them an opportunity to prepare for school shootings and other scenarios.
"Some of the scenarios will call for a less lethal device like a taser, or OC chemical spray. Some of them will require lethal force," Russell said.
The training is being held at police headquarters until Thursday.
