Team ‘Sparks of Hope’ held a bake sale Saturday morning to raise money for Relay for Life.

The bake sale was at the Walmart on Maple Ave. both Friday and Saturday. Shoppers bought cupcakes, cookies, hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy, and chicken sandwiches, with all of the proceeds going towards Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society.

"Yesterday we raised $900.73 and that was just selling hot dogs, chips and a pop for $3 and our baked goods and our sucker trees are $20, we were selling them yesterday," said co-captain, Heather Grimm.

Since it’s the day before Easter, Grimms says a lot of people are still shopping for sweets to put in their Easter baskets and says she thinks people will buy their homemade goods. The team hopes to raise about $2,000 from the bake sale, getting them closer to their goal of $18,000.

"Cancer appeals to a lot of people. We’ve had a lot of people just stop by and empty their change out of their purse and say, ‘I’m a survivor, thank you for doing this’ and that really is what we’re here for. We’re here to make sure there is a future for these people."

Team Sparks of Hope also raffled off wreaths, wood crafts and a Keebler Cheez-It chair.
