Coin Mart On Military Road Robbed

The Zanesville Police Department responded to an armed robbery at the Coin Mart on Military Road early Friday evening.

Police Captain Tony Coury says officers received the call around 5:15. Upon arrival they discovered the robbery had ended and the suspect had fled the scene but not before shots were fired at the suspect by a Coin Mart employee.

"Right now our investigation looks like the store clerk chased the person from the store, the person who robbed this store evidently brandished a firearm out in the parking lot and some shots were fired," said Capt. Coury.

The store clerk shot at least five times. An undertermined amount of money was taken. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a hoodie and mask, around 6 feet tall, medium to heavy build. He was last seen running towards Beverly Avenue.

"He got into a car, a small maroon possible Honda civic style vehicle and was last seen driving towards Fairway Lane at a high rate of speed," said Coury.

Captain Coury says the Carr Center was struck several times by the rounds fired. The Coin Mart employee did not suffer any injuries. Coury is unsure whether the suspect or the vehicle he escaped in were hit. The robbery remains under investigation.
