A local Cub Scouts participated in a pinewood derby race at North Terrace Church in Zanesville Saturday afternoon. About 55 cub scouts from Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties raced their pinewood derby cars.
"It’s the first one we’ve done in twelve years. We had some problems at the last one and they’ve not done it since. So I took it upon myself to do this for these boys," said Phil Palmer of the Zane Trace District Pinewood Derby.
About 200 people packed the North Terrace Church to watch the derby race. The top five placers won trophies and everyone who participated also received a prize.
"We’re trying to make it an annual thing and we’re going to try and do it around the same time every year so the boys get a chance to do their own pinewood derby and the top five get to come to a district."
