Genesis Healthcare System has been awarded a primary stroke certification
It was received by genesis for the culmination of work the hospital has done to improve the care and treatment they provide to stoke patients.
Dr. Bryan Bjornstad, Stroke Medical Director, "But there are a different number of parameters and criteria that we had to satisfy in order to get the certification and we met those and need to improve on those and so it basically provides much better stroke care for stroke patients of the community."
These parameters include speeding up the treatment process. When it comes to strokes, time is of the essence, the longer a patient has a blocked artery in their brain, the more likely permanent damage can occur.
"So when we are dealing with strokes, the adage we use is "time is brain". We want the community to know as soon as they get any type of stroke symptoms to call 911, get to the hospital as soon as possible "
To know if you having a stroke remember "FAST". F for facial droop, A for arm weakness, S for slurred speech, and T for time to call 911 and go to the hospital immediately.
